Description
I had an idea to do a painting that would crack, not only from my strikes, but from the strikes of visitors to the studio as an interactive piece. My friend Mike explained that having ruined a million canvases over the years he knew very well how to gesso a canvas designed to crack and showed me how to do it. This ground is a big part of the painting. I made 4 painted hits and then several other people coming through the studio made their contribution once the paint was dry. I went back and re-gessoed some white back into the figures. The middle right mark is intended to be a nod to the form of the first painting, while the other 3 marks are more vertical. My eye immediately sees that middle right image and makes me think about the entire 8 painting journey.
